What is measured

Integrated loudness (LUFS)
How loud the whole episode sounds to a listener, averaged the way ITU-R BS.1770 defines it: quiet passages below the gate do not drag the number down.
True peak (dBTP)
The highest level the signal actually reaches between samples, measured with 4x oversampling. This is what clips on the listener's device even when the waveform looks safe.
Loudness range (LU)
How far the level moves across the episode. A large range usually means guests or segments sit at different levels.
Dead air
Stretches quieter than -50 dB for more than two seconds — usually a failed edit rather than a pause.

Questions people ask about this check

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and measured inside your browser tab. You can open your browser's network tab while the measurement runs and see that nothing is sent.

How accurate is a browser measurement?

It implements ITU-R BS.1770-4 and EBU Tech 3342, and it is tested against ffmpeg's EBU R128 meter to within 0.3 LU on integrated loudness. Treat it as a check before publishing, not as a mastering report.

Which loudness target should I use?

Apple Podcasts expects -16 LUFS, Spotify and YouTube -14 LUFS, and broadcast under EBU R128 -23 LUFS. All of them cap true peak at -1 dBTP. Pick the platform most of your listeners use; the differences are small enough that one master usually serves all of them.

Which file formats work?

WAV, MP3 and FLAC. WAV is read directly, so those numbers are exact. M4A and other formats are not supported yet — export an MP3 and the check will read it.

What do I do if the file is too quiet or too loud?

The result tells you the correction in dB. You can apply it yourself in Audacity following our guide, or let the AudioLinter plugin do it inside WordPress and re-measure the corrected file.
