Audacity: fix audio that is too loud
A simple manual workflow for lowering loudness without turning the file into a guessing game.
Goal
The goal is to reduce loudness in a controlled way, then export the file and verify the result again in AudioLinter.
Suggested workflow
- Open the file in Audacity and duplicate the track if you want a quick safety copy.
- Listen to the loudest sections first so you understand whether the problem is broad or localized.
- Reduce the overall gain carefully instead of making large aggressive changes immediately.
- Export the corrected file and analyze it again in AudioLinter.
What to watch out for
- Do not only trust how the waveform looks on screen.
- Do not fix one loud section and assume the whole file is now compliant.
- Recheck the final export, because the verified result matters more than the edit session.
